Whether you’re an amateur or experienced hiker, you’re sure to have plenty of fun right here in Forsyth County.

Winston-Salem’s Best Hiking Trails

Lush natural beauty and miles of trails await throughout the Winston-Salem area. Get ready to lace up your boots—here are a few hiking spots that should be at the top of your must-visit list!

Salem Lake Trail

Located in Salem Lake Park, this namesake hiking destination offers 6.9 miles of paved trails with gorgeous waterfront views. This loop was designed for hikers of all levels, as well as children and furry friends. You can also traverse the trail via bike or horseback for a more exciting adventure!

When you’re done with your hike, be sure to explore the park’s other amenities. You’ll find plenty of visitors boating on the lake, taking advantage of the public marina, or fishing on one of many piers.

Hobby Park Trail

Hobby Park Trail promises a more challenging hike on its 2.2 mile loop, which showcases plenty of twists and turns in a true forest setting. Here, you’ll discover Winston-Salem’s native flora and fauna, as well as a quaint footbridge and pond.

This shady trail is also ideal for dogs and older children, but you may want to bring a map or compass to help you stay on the path. And if you’re feeling daring, you can even try biking it!

Muddy Creek Greenway

Searching for a riverfront trail right in the heart of Winston-Salem? Look no further than the Muddy Creek Greenway, a 6.2-mile out-and-back hike that’s dog-, kid-, and wheelchair-friendly. Hikers love the pristine views of Muddy Creek, as well as the conveniently paved pathways.

Other popular activities at Muddy Creek include biking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing. And to top it all off, it’s just a 15-minute drive from Downtown Winston-Salem!

Salem Creek Greenway

The Salem Creek Greenway is the longest trail on our list, and it provides a breathtaking natural experience filled with surprises at every turn. This 8.5-mile out-and-back trail is known for its picturesque scenery and easy terrain. If you traverse the entire trail, you’ll encounter Happy Hills Park, Civitan Park, Reynolds Park, and end your journey at Salem Lake.

Children and leashed dogs are welcome at the Salem Creek Greenway, and the trail has multiple access points throughout town.

Reynolda House Gardens and Trail

Located near the grounds of the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, this 1.7-mile trail features a sublime combination of historic architecture, lakefront views, and natural beauty. Ample shade and minimal hills make this an ideal spot for beginners to hone their hiking skills, and you can even pay a visit to the museum after your adventure.

Other highlights of the Reynolda property include an expansive garden, the Boathouse Nature Education Center, and the Golf Links Meadow.
